FRANK STADLER
nasceu em 1969 na regiao de Obertaufkirchen, Alemanha e cresceu na
pequena cidade de Traunstein. Iniciou os seus estudos de violino aos
6 anos de idade e, enquanto aluno, foi o primeiro violino do seu
conservatorio assim como membro de uma banda de rock. Continuou os
seus estudos no Mozarteum de Salzburgo tendo tido como professors
Helmut Zehtmair e Ruggiero Ricci. Durante este periodo, Frank
apresentou-se regularmente como solista e membro, pro vezes como
violetista, num vasto numero de famosas orquestras de camara de
Salzburgo.
Desde 1997 Frank Stadler e o primeiro violino do ‘Austrian Ensemble
for modern music’ assim como primeiro violino do Quarteto Stadler.
Estes dois ensembles sao reconhecidos pelas suas interpretacoes de
musica moderna com prestacoes no Festival de Salzburgo, Festival
Dialgo, na bienal de Heidelberger para Musica Moderna e noutros
festivais e eventos especialmente dedicados a musica moderna. Frank
trabalha intensamente com compositores como Boguslaw Schaeffer,
Helmut Lachenmann e Peter Ruzicka. Com os seus ensembles, Frank ja
fez mais de 150 premieres incluindo o concerto para violino de
Boguslaw Schaeffer em 2003. Frank Stadler e o concertino da
orquestra Mozarteum de Salzburgo desde 1999 e e professor de violino
na Universidade Mozarteum desde 2007. Apresenta-se frequentemente
como solista com a orquestra Mozarteum em concertos de Mozart bem
como o concerto de Alban Berg que lhe rendeu excelente critica.
FRANK STADLER was born in 1969 in the Obertaufkir chen region, Germany, and grew up in the small town of Traunstein. He started violin at the age of 6 and as a scholar, lead the orchestra of his high school as well as being part of a rock band. Further studies at the Salzburg Mozarteum included lessons with Prof. Helmut Zehtmair and Prf. Ruggiero Ricci. During this time he appeared regularly as a member and soloist in a number of Salzburg's famous chamber orchestras, sometimes also playing the viola. Since 1997, Frank Stadler has been the principal violinist of the Austrian Ensemble for modern music as well as the fist violinist of the Stadler Quartet. Both ensembles are regarded as world class in their interpretation of modern music and as such have given acclaimed performances at the Salzburg Festival, the Festival Dialgo, the Heidelberger Biennale for Modern Music and other prominent festivals and events specifically for the performance of modern music. Frank works intensively with composers such as Boguslaw Schaeffer, Helmut Lachenmann and Peter Ruzicka. With his ensembles, he has given over 150 world premiers including the violin concerto by Boguslaw Schaeffer in 2003. Frank Stadlerm has been the Concertmaster of the Mozarteum orchestra in Salzburg since 1999 and taught as professor of violin at the Universität Mozarteum in 2007. He frequently engages with the Mozarteum Orchestra as soloist in concertos by Mozart as well as a critically acclaimed performance of the Alban Berg Violin Concerto.
PETER
MARTENS
studied with Dalena Roux at the University of Stellenbosch, whilst
still at school, and later with prof. Heidi Litchauer at the
Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 1989 he won a scholarship to Interlochen,
U.S.A., where he led the cello section of the World Youth Orchestra.
He also had master classes with Heinrich Schiff, William Pleeth and
Ivan Monigetti. From 1990 to 1993, Peter studied in Salzburg during
which time he was the principal cellist of the chamber orchestra,
Salzburger Musici and solo cellist of the Austrian Ensemble for
Modern Music. On his return to South Africa, Peter took up the
position of co-principal cellist of NAPOP (New Arts Philharmonic
Orchestra Pretoria) and principal cellist of the Chamber Orchestra
of South Africa. In 2001 he took up the position of principal
cellist of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and resigned from the
post in January this year to take up the positions of Artistic
Administrator and Director of the Stellenbosch International Chamber
Music Festival at the University of Stellenbosch. He remains a very
active soloist and chamber musician. He performed his first concerto
with the CTSO at the age of 15 and has since performed as soloist
and chamber musician all over South Africa. Peter has taught as a
part-time lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch, UCT and the
University of Pretoria. He has recorded much solo and chamber music
for the SABC and has recently released a CD on “Cello Classics” with
the cello sextet I Grandi Violoncellisti. Peter is also a member of
the Lyric Piano Trio, the Amici String quartet and Bass-ically
Brilliant with bassist, Leon Bosch. In 1995 Peter replaced the
injured cellist of the Osiris Piano Trio in a tour of South Africa
playing the Beethoven Triple Concerto. In 1002/3 he gave a number of
very successful performances of the 6 unaccompanied Bach Suites in
Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Salzburg. The
success of the Salzburg performances coupled with the success of a
series of chamber music concerts there has lead to an open
invitation to return for similar concerts on an annual basis. Peter
plays on a Locky Hill Cello. A successful and exciting chamber music
partnership with internationally acclaimed soloists, Benjamin Schmid
and Ariane Haering in 2006 has paved the way for some more exciting
concerts in the future. Future engagements for 2008 include
invitations to teach and perform in Salzburg, the Stift Festival in
Holland, Portugal and various solo and chamber music engagements in
South Africa. studied cello with Prof. Heidi Litchauer at the

cellist of the Austrian Ensemble for Modern Music and principal
cello of the Salzburger Musici Chamber Orchestra. He also had master

in Pretoria.
SUZANNE
MARTENS
studied violin at the University of Pretoria under Prof. Alan
Solomon. In 1991, was a member of the winning trio in the Oude
Meester Chamber Music Competition. She furthered her studies in
Holland under Jan Repko (Academie Minerva, Groningen) and in Austria
under Lavard Skou-Larsen (Mozarteum, Salzburg), where she was also a
member of the Salzburger Musici Chamber Orchestra. Until June 2000,
Suzanne held the position of associate concertmaster in the now
defunct New Arts Philharmonic Orchestra Pretoria and was also a
founder member of the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa. In June
2001, she was appointed concertmaster of the Cape Philharmonic
Orchestra. Suzanne is married to well-known cellist, Peter Martens
and is currently a lecturer in violin at the Department of Music,
Stellenbosch University.
Nascido
em Joanesburgo a 1976, Gareth Lubbe comecou os seus estudos
de piano e violino aos 4 anos de idade. Apresentou-se com orquestra
ao violino pela primeira vez aos 9 anos de idade vindo depois a
receber numerosos premios em concursos regionais e nacionais.
Apresentou-se tambem como pianista com a orquestra SABC e dirigiu a
Orquestra Sinfonica de Joanesburgo. Foi concertino da orquestra de
jovens de East Rand durante muitos anos bem como membro da Orquestra
Nacional Juvenil Sul Africana fazendo tournnee na Africa do Sul e no
estrangeiro. Depois de terminar os seus estudos na Africa do Sul com
Pienaar Fourie, Annemarie Swanepoel, Hester Beukes e Joseph Stanford,
foi para a Alemanha onde completou o seu primeiro diploma em violino
com Gorjan Kosuta em Colonia e recebeu aulas de musica de camara com
o quarteto Alban Berg. Mais tarde completou o seu mestrado em viola
de arco com Barbara Westphal em Luebeck. Apresentou-se como solista
e musico de camra com ensembles na Europa, America e Asia
trabalhando regularmente com a Orquestra de Camara Mahler em
concertos e gravacoes com maestros como Claudio Abbado e Daniel
Harding entre outros.
Desde 1996 Gareth trabalha em estreita colaboracao com o compositor Neo-Zelandes Hayden Chisholm com quem se apresentou em varias partes do mundo. Em 2001 tiveram uma encomenda para escrever a musica para “Mary Stuart” de Schiller para a Deutsche Schauspielhaus em Hamburg.
Tambem e membro do ensemble „Gelberklang“ conhecidos na EUropa pelo seu trabalho em musica contemporanea e workshops em improvisacao livre com jovens musicos. Este ensemble gravou para a BBC e outras radios europeias.
Gareth e tambem ‘overtone singer’ tendo apresentacoes em toda a parte do mundo. Em 2005 foi convidado pelo instituto Goethe para se apresentar num festival etnico nas montanhas Altay a su da Siberia onde esta tecnica vocal polifonica sempre foi um elemento vital da sua musica popular. Com o trio “Doha” gravou um album beneficiando „Great Stupa of Dharmakaya“ nas montanhas rochosas do Colorado.
Gareth Lubbe vive em Leipzig onde e o concertino adjunto da Orquestra Gewandhaus dirigida por Riccardo Chailly.
Born 1976 in Johannesburg, GARETH LUBBE received his first musical education on the Piano and Violin at the age of four. He made his first orchestral violin debut in Johannesburg when he was nine years of age afterwhich he received numerous prizes at national and regional competitions. He also performed as pianist with the SABC orchestra and conducted the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra. He was concertmaster of the East Rand youth orchestra for many years as well as member of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra touring at home and abroad. After studies in South Africa with Pienaar Fourie, Annemarie Swanepoel, Hester Beukes and Joseph Stanford he went on to study in Germany where he did his first degree inViolin with Gorjan Kosuta in Cologne whilst receiving Chamber Music lessons from the Alban Berg Quartett. He later did his masters in Viola with Barbara Westphal in Luebeck. He has appeared as soloist and chamber musician with ensembles throughout Europe, America and Asia and has worked regularly with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, performing and recording with conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Daniel Harding amongst others.
Since 1996, Mr Lubbe has worked in close collaboration with the New Zealand born multi-instrumentalist and composer Hayden Chisholm, with whom he has performed in various parts of the world. In 2001 they were commissioned to write the music for Schiller's „Mary Stuart“ at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.
He is also a member ot the ensemble „Gelberklang“, known in Europe for their work in the contemporary music scene and workshops on free improvisation with young classical musicians. They have recorded for BBC and other major European radio stations.
As acclaimed overtonesinger, Mr Lubbe performs and gives workshops around the world. In 2005 he was invited by the Goethe Institute to perform at an ethnic festival in the Altay mountains of southern Siberia where this polyphonic vocal technique has always been a vital element of their folk music. Together with “Doha”, a trio with Claudio Bohorquez and Chisholm, he recorded an albumn benefitting the “Great Stupa of Dharmakaya” in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Gareth Lubbe currently lives in Leipzig, where he is Co-Principal Violist in the Gewandhaus Orchestra with Riccardo Chailly.
LEON
BOSCH has an honoured place among the select group of virtuoso
double bass players worldwide. Concerto engagements in many parts of
the world with the likes of conductors Pinchas Zukerman, Nicolas
Kraemer, Nicolae Moldoveanu and Guido Johannes Rumstadt have been
matched by collaborations with a long line of leading chamber music
groups - among them the Lindsay, Belcea and Brodsky string quartets,
the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble, the Moscow
Virtuosi and the Zukerman Chamber Players. Partnerships with solo
performers have embraced such pianists as Peter Donohoe, Vladimir
Ovchinikov, Mikhail Rudy and Maria João Pires. Leon Bosch has a
growing discography of concerto and recital recordings. This will
shortly include two albums devoted to the music of the great
Giovanni Bottesini and two featuring music by British composers.
Then will follow everything from a disc of Russian music and another
of compositions by Domenico Dragonetti, to the complete works for
solo double bass by Dittersdorf, Menotti's concerto and recordings
of a string of neglected concertos for the instrument.
Since
his first solo performance at the age of 11, ABEL PEREIRA has
appeared as a soloist with orchestras, in chamber ensembles and in
recital throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and the
Middle East. He studied at the University of Oporto with Bohdan
Sebestik and in Germany with Marie Luise-Neunecker and also received
tuition from Hermann Baumann, Stefan Dohr, Jeffrey Bryant, Radovan
Vlatckowich, the Prague Horn Trio and the German Horn Ensemble. He
was awarded numerous prizes in various international competitions,
including Leeuwarden (Holland), Makneukirchen (Germany), Concertino
Praha (Czeck Republic) and first prize at the Young Musicians
Awards, presented by the RDP (Portugal). From 1995 to 2001, he
performed with the European Community Youth Orchestra, appearing in
some of the most prestigious venues in Europe: the Royal Albert Hall
in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berlin Philarmonie (as
principle horn), La Scala in Milan, the Citè de la Musique in Paris
and the Conzertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition, he has worked with
such distinguished conductors and soloists as Carlo Maria Giulini,
Mstislav Rostropovich, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Vladimir
Askenazy, Claudio Abbado, Emanuel Ax, Radu Lupu, Marta Argerich and
Barbara Hendriks. In 1998, Abel was awarded the coveted EUYO Master
Prize by Vladimir Ashkenazy, Bernard Haitink and Prof. Lutz Kohler.
He has performed as a soloist with some of Europe's finest
orchestras and has recorded for various European radio and
television stations. In 2001, he recorded a CD with contemporary
pieces for solo horn and piano and in 2002, recorded the Mozart horn
concertos with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra. Since 1996, Abel
has presented master classes in Lisbon, Santa Maria da Feira,
Lousada, Caldas da Rainha, Mirandela, Macau, Bombay, Cabo Verde, the
UK, at the Bisyoc International Festival. In 2004, he was invited to
perform as soloist in the International Horn Festival in Spain. He
is a founder member of the Artziz Quintet and the Oporto Brass
Quintet and teaches at the Professional School of Music in Espinho
and at the Superior School of Arts in Castelo Branco. He is
currenlty principal horn of the Oporto National Orchestra. During
the 2003/4 season, Abel performed in recitals in Portugal, Spain,
Brazil, UK, Estonia and France. His future engagements for the
2004/5 season include concerts in Portugal, the UK, Spain, Brazil,
Switzerland, Germany and South Africa and a new recording of recital
pieces with piano accompaniment.
NINA
SCHUMANN Following her first appearance with orchestra at the
age of 15, Nina Schumann's talent quickly captured the public's
attention and she rapidly established herself as one of South
Africa's foremost pianists, receiving piano tuition from Lamar
Crowson, Vitaly Margulis and Vladimir Viardo. Ms. Schumann has won
every major South African music competition and scholarship/prize,
including the Oude Meester Music Prize, ATKV Forte Competition, Oude
Meester National Chamber Music Competition, Wooltru Scholarship,
Adcock-Ingram Music Prize, SAMRO Overseas Scholarship, Jules Kramer
and Harry Crossley Overseas Bursaries, as well as the SABC Music
Prize. In addition, she has also participated in several
international competitions, including the Morocco International and
UNISA/Transnet International Piano Competition, during which she
reached the semi-final round and was awarded three special prizes,
one of which was as the Most Promising South African Pianist.
Besides having more than 150 concerto performances with orchestras
in South Africa, Europe and the USA to her credit (and some 35
concertos in her repertoire), she is also a very active chamber
musician and soloist and regularly appears in concert with her
husband, pianist Luis Magalhães. In 2006 Nina Schumann and Luis
Magalhães released a CD with the complete works for two pianos by
Sergei Rachmaninoff under Universal Music label. Nina is currently
appointed as Professor and Head of Piano at the Department of Music,
Stellenbosch University (South Africa).
LUIS
MAGALHÃES, portuguese pianist, Luis Magalhães, started playing
piano at the age of five, receiving tuition from Eduardo Rocha, José
Alexandre Reis, Pedro Burmester and Vladimir Viardo, as well as
masterclasses from, amongst others, Helena Sá e Costa, Paul Badura-Skoda,
Dimitri Bashkirov and Alicia de Larrocha.
Mr. Magalhães has won several prizes at national and international competitions, including first prize at the Maria Campina Competition, second prize at the Juventude Musical Portuguesa Competition, second prize (Chamber Music) at the Jóvens Músicos Competition, honorary mention at the Helena Sá e Costa Competition, as well as second prize for the best performance of Russian music and best performance of Rachmaninoff at the 2002 Russian Music International Piano Competition, USA. In 2001 he was awarded the National Medal for Cultural Achievements by the Mayor of Famalicão, Portugal.
A concert pianist since the age of nine, Mr. Magalhães has given numerous recital, concerto and chamber music performances in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa, rendering rave reviews. He also regularly appears in concert with his wife, pianist Nina Schumann having recorded together a CD with the complete works for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninoff under Universal Music label.
Mr. Magalhães is a lecturer in piano at the Department of Music, Stellenbosch University (South Africa).

Pinto nasceu em Vila Real em 1976.
Fez os seus estudos de clarinete com Saul Silva e António Saiote e
aperfeiçoou-se com Michel Arrignon e Alain Damiens. Em Portugal,
França e Áustria, frequentou master-classes orientadas pelos
clarinetistas Guy Dangain, Walter Boeykens, Howard Clug, António
Saiote, Michel Arrignon, Robert Fontaine e Alois Brandhofer.
Músico completo, é intérprete de vários estilos musicais e tem participado em inúmeros festivais de música em Portugal e no estrangeiro. Nuno Pinto tem dedicado uma grande parte do seu trabalho à música de câmara e à música contemporânea.
É membro fundador dos grupos de câmara Camerata Senza Misura, Trivm de Palhetas e Clarinetes Ad Libitum e tem colaborado, entre outros, com o Moscow Piano Quartet, o Ensemble Contrapuctus, o Ensemble Português de Clarinetes e os Quartetos de Cordas de Lisboa, Aveiro e Lyra. É ainda membro da OrchestrUtopica, do Grupo Música Nova e do Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble.
Enquanto clarinetista, esteve presente em estreias de obras de compositores como Cândido Lima, Christopher Bochmann, António Vitorino d’Almeida, Carlos Guedes, Virgílio Melo, Carlos Azevedo, Fernando C. Nuno Pinto é professor de Clarinete e de Música de Câmara na Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo, no Porto, e na Fundação Conservatório Regional de Gaia. Para além disso, é convidado regularmente para orientar cursos de aperfeiçoamento, workshops e master-classes um pouco por todo o pais.
Com o grupo Clarinetes Ad Libitum gravou, em 2006, o disco Contradanza e participou, em 2007, com o grupo Camerata Senza Misura no filme A Terra antes do Céu, de João Botelho.

An accomplished musician, he plays several music styles. He played as a solist with Orquestra Clássica do Porto, Orquestra do Norte, Solistas do Porto, Orquestra de Câmara Musicare, Orquestra Artave and European Medical Students Orchestra. And also worked with Orquestra Gulbenkian and Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.
As a clarinettist, has participated in several musical festivals held in Portugal and abroad. Attended the premiere of works by composers such as Cândido Lima, Christopher Bochmann, António Vitorino d'Almeida, Carlos Guedes, Virgílio Melo, Carlos Azevedo, Fernando C. Lapa, José Júlio Lopes, Nuno Côrte-Real, Ivan Moody, Carlos Caires, Muiguel Azguime and António Sousa Dias. He is the dedicatee of works of Cândido Lima Luís Tinoco and Virgílio Melo.
He is a professor of clarinet and chamber music at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo, in Oporto, and at Fundação Conservatório Regional de Gaia.
